| Hello Zachary: We're halfway through a very busy 2015 and the unusually warm Seattle summer will prepare us (somewhat) for BlackHat and BSides coming up in Las Vegas. DomainTools will have a hospitality suite at the Mandalay Bay Aug 4-6. Meanwhile, just up the road, our very own Tim Helming will be giving a talk at BSides titled " Open Up a Can of OSINT On 'Em" featuring new ways to go both deep and broad in adversary analysis to better defend your organization. If you're planning to attend either of these events, please reach out to sales@domaintools.com to schedule some time with us. Speaking of events, we participated in several earlier in the year, including RSA Conference, FS-ISAC Summit, Gartner Security Summit, and SANSFIRE. Read below for highlights and our thoughts on the cybersecurity issues discussed at each show. We also launched the first edition of The DomainTools Report: A Profile of Malicious Domains last quarter. Download the report below for an inside look at trends from our large and growing dataset. We're looking forward to a quieter summer travel-wise. It won't be quiet in the office though, as we expect to launch a major new enterprise cybersecurity investigation platform. Stay tuned! Sincerely, DomainTools The DT Report: A Profile of Malicious Domains Much of the malicious activity on the Internet is classified and tracked in domain blacklists and reputation scores. But these do little to profile and predict cybercrime to proactively protect against domains that have yet to exhibit illicit behavior. Malicious actors behave in a predictable manner, and the more thoroughly we profile that behavior, the better we can defend against them. With that purpose in mind, we analyzed domains from several popular blacklists. | | | News and Blog Posts: | | Reflections on the Gartner Security Summit A lot of C-level executives and board members have been getting a crash course in cybersecurity-sometimes, unfortunately, driven by breaches in their own organizations. Many were at the Gartner summit, talking with us and other vendors, analysts and peers about how to tackle the myriad challenges we all face. Unlike Gartner or RSA, SANS is focused on education and training, so the attendees are already well-versed in best practices for incident response and forensics. The content of FS-ISAC was organized around several key infosec topics that financial institutions are addressing today. Overlaying the domain data with data on malicious activity gave us quantitative insights into where the malicious and innocuous domains "live," logically as well as geographically. Read More | |
