Fulfillment by Amazon Seller Newsletter

FBA Merchant Update
  in this issue...

August Inventory Cleanup has arrived

The first FBA Inventory Cleanup took place on August 15, 2011. Any inventory Units that had been in our fulfillment centers for 365 days or longer on August 15 were charged the annual Long-Term Storage Fee (excluding the one Unit per ASIN exemption). Many FBA sellers took advantage of our discounted removal and disposal rates to clear out aging inventory, which will free up inventory space for more current products.

Later in August we will be releasing a Long-Term Storage Fee "Charge Report" that will enable you to view a list of your inventory for which the fee was charged. We expect to apply the charges in September. The next Inventory Cleanup event will be February 15, 2012.

New Fulfillment Rates

In April we announced new rates were going into effect on May 19, 2011, for FBA fulfillment fees:

  • Media on Amazon.com Pick & Pack Fee
  • Oversize Media and Non-Media Multi-Channel Fulfillment Weight Handling Fee
  • Oversize Media and Non-Media Special Handling Fee
  • Removal Fees

If you downloaded a PDF version of the FBA fulfillment fees, it is no longer current. You can now find the FBA rates in Seller Central Help. Go to 3.0 Pricing for current rates.

From the editor

Greetings from Fulfillment by Amazon,

With the holidays not so far on the horizon, it's a good time to evaluate your inventory and prepare for the busiest time of the year. We have added three new features to your tool box that will help you do that. We have two new ways to remove inventory. One enables the removal of large volumes of inventory and the other automates the removal of unsellable units. Along with that, we have a new way to create shipments that will make managing large volumes of inventory easier.

  FBA News

Create large return orders using the Removal Order File

If you only want to remove a few products from a fulfillment center, the online Create Removal Order form is perfect for the job. But what if you have hundreds or even thousands of products that you want to remove? Entering them one at a time online just doesn't cut it. Now you don't have to.

Where the online Create Removal Order form is limited to 150 ASINs per order, the Removal Order File is capable of handling up to 50,000 unique ASINs. You can use the Removal Order File to either have items returned to you or disposed of.

You can download the Removal Order File Template by creating an order from the Amazon-Fulfilled Inventory page. From the Create Removal Order page under Create Order with Flat File in the upper right corner, click "Upload Flat File." This link will take you to the Upload Removal Order File page where you can download the Removal Order File Template and upload the completed flat file.

Automate removals of unsellable inventory

Tired of hunting for your unsellable inventory so you can have it returned or disposed of? Now you can have unsellable Units in Amazon fulfillment centers removed automatically. You choose the method (return or dispose) and the frequency (twice a month, monthly, or every 90 days).

After an automated removal order has been created, we will send you an automated e-mail notification with the removal order ID to the e-mail address you designate in your Automated Unsellable Removals Settings.

You can enable Automated Unsellable Removals by going to the Shipping Queue and clicking the FBA Settings button.

Simplify large FBA shipments with the Inbound Shipment Upload Tool

You can now use the Inbound Shipment feed upload tool to create or update a shipment to an Amazon fulfillment center. This tool can simplify medium-to-large shipment creation using a spreadsheet instead of adding products one at a time through your Seller Account.

You can use the Create Inbound Shipment Request Template to create a new shipment or update an existing shipment using the Update Inbound Shipment Request Template.

To get started, go to your Shipping Queue and click Upload Inbound Shipment File. Download the template, add your product information, and upload the file.

FBA ships 2,000 orders per day for Star Bright Kids Company during the 2010 holiday season

After struggling to find toys similar to those in her children’s Montessori school, Susan Klieman realized that she wasn’t the only one looking for unique, “back-to-the-basics” toys. She contacted her college friend, Sandra Gunthorpe-Orr, and in 2006, they founded Star Bright Kids Company, a toy seller that offers high quality eco-friendly and natural toys sourced from manufacturers all over the world. Through Selling on Amazon, Klieman and Gunthorpe-Orr have built a successful business-with more than 150,000 customers- from their homes, 600 miles apart.

“During the holiday season, FBA ships approximately 2,000 orders a day for Star Bright Kids Company, a task that would be impossible for the two of us on our own.”

Co-President Star Bright Kids Company

  Tools & Tips

Sortation Best Practices

Keeping your physical inventory organized can simplify creating shipments when it's time to replenish. Here are a few simple tips to stay organized.

  • When you receive inventory from your supplier, sort and store it by physical UPCs, since this is the driving data point in the Amazon catalog.
  • If you are stowing physical inventory in your warehouse prior to sending to Amazon then sort those products by UPC as well. Please note that if the same product is produced with varying physical UPCs, it is acceptable to stow these items together as long as all applicable UPC codes have been entered into the Amazon catalog for your listing/ASIN associated with your product.
  • If your employees are following the Audit model described in last month's newsletter, their primary objective should be to identify products with varying UPCs so that correct sortation steps can be facilitated.

Visit Shipping Best Practices for more information on meeting FBA's shipping requirements.

Hello,

- Google +1 for websites
reporting
- Policy update on iframes

- New platforms performance report
- Multi-dimension reporting

  Tip of the Month
Report +1

+1 Reporting is now available

In our last issue we told you all about the +1 button and how it can help you drive more and better qualified traffic to your site. This time, we're excited to share the new reporting tools Google has designed to help you keep track of your +1 activity.

The best place to find out how the +1 button is performing is in Google Webmaster Tools . You can get more information on how much additional organic search traffic the +1 button is bringing to your pages, how many times your pages have been +1'd by your users and demographic information for those users. If you haven't done so already, you'll need to verify your site on Google Webmaster Tools to get access to these features. In addition to this, Google Analytics is offering the new Social Plug-in Analytics tool. This will give you insight into the different types of actions taking place in your site once users reach it. You'll be able to compare behavior between users who +1 your pages and those who don't, as well as track other social actions and see which pages are driving the highest number of them.
Platforms Performance Report

You can now access a brand new report in your AdSense account. It allows you to see which platforms your visitors are using to access your site and the breakdown of your earnings according to each platform; desktop, high-end mobile devices, and other mobile devices.

Learn
how to use it to optimize your site.

Policy Updates

We recently clarified the language in our program policies to ban the misuse of iframes that alter behavior targeting or the appearance of AdSense ads.

We published this blog post to explain the reasoning behind this policy and examples of inappropriate use of iframes.

Multi-dimension Report

A new powerful feature called multi-dimension reporting is now available in the new interface.  You can now add dimensions to your performance reports to sort and view data across multiple dimensions, including viewing a channel by date or an ad unit by targeting type.

Check out this post to learn more about how to interactively explore your data and gain performance insights.
